The 2023 UCI Road World Championships in Glasgow will culminate with the elite women’s road race on August 13. The elite men’s road race will take place a week earlier, on August 6.
Since this is the first multi-discipline event of its kind, the UCI has announced that the 2023 World Championships would span eleven days (August 3-13) and include championship races in road, track, mountain bike, para-cycling, and BMX.
The multi-discipline World Championships will henceforth be contested every four years in the year before the Olympic Games, which means a considerable move in the timing of the road races.
In addition to showcasing women’s cycling, the UCI said they scheduled the top road events so that they would coincide as closely as possible with the UCI Road International Calendar, especially in regards to the Tours of France.
On the road, the time trial for the elite men is scheduled for Friday, August 11, and the road race for the elite men will take place on Sunday, August 6. On Thursday, August 10th, the top women’s riders will compete, and on Sunday, August 13th, the UCI Cycling World Championships will conclude with the women’s road race. George Square, located in the heart of Glasgow, will serve as the finish line for the road events.
On August 8th, towards the middle of the week, the team time trial mixed relay is scheduled.
Some of the best mountain bikers in the world will compete in cross-country races at Glentress Forest on Saturday, August 12. The mountain bike cross country marathon will take place on August 6, with the short track qualifying and finals taking place the following weekend, on August 8 and 10.
From August 3 to 5, downhill mountain biking competitions will be place at Fort William on the region’s traditional course. The Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome will be the site of several track and para-cycling track events from August 3-8, with a complete program to be announced at a later time.
